A short life but a long history of serving those through prayer and suffering, St. Theresa of Lisieux was born of wealth in France but always wanted to serve Christ Jesus. At the age of 15, she was granted special permission by the Bishop to enter the Carmelite Order where she lived a simple life of prayer, penance, and devotion. Often nicknamed, "The Little Flower," Theresa of Lisieux is one of the patron saints of the missions, not because she ever went anywhere, but because of her special love of the missions, and the prayers and letters she gave in support of missionaries. Sadly enough, her dream of becoming a missionary was finally granted at age 24 but she died before being able to leave for Vietnam on her first mission.
St. Theresa's Feast day is October 1.
